Nearly a half a year after the new U.S. President election, Kazakhstani people generally prefer not to hurry with conclusions concerning the personality of the new American leader and his influence on Kazakhstan.

However, the survey conducted by Demoscope Bureau of Public Opinion Express Monitoring revealed interesting features concerning citizens of Kazakhstan to Donald Trump.

17% of the population of Kazakhstan sees Trump in a positive light, the senior generation is pleased with him most of all: a quarter of people of 50 and above consider him a good politician. It is partly similar to the situation with American voters where the senior generation has also preferred Trump to Hillary: it received 53% of votes of people of 50 and above. In Kazakhstan the other age categories extended sympathy by less than 12%.

In general 21% of the population treats him neutrally, the main part (58%) believes it is too early to draw the conclusions. 4% of respondents declare that Trump is the worst president in the history of the country.

In difference from America the youth as well as Kazakhstani citizens up to 50 mainly prefer a neutral attitude or do not hurry with conclusions: 27% of respondents at the age of 18-29 and 24% of respondents of 30-49 assess Trump neutrally; as for consequences of his ruling for Kazakhstan, 60% of the first and 63% of the second have not resorted to any conclusions yet.

Kazakhstani prefer not to hurry to forecast possible influence of Trump’s policy on Kazakhstan (58%) as well as on the world (60%). Kazakhstani people also prefer to treat Trump’s well-known statement “Let’s make America great again” with caution (50%).

It is remarkable that some regions in Kazakhstan are mostly pleased with Trump and are positive about his influence. So, in Almaty, Almaty and Mangistau regions on average more than a quarter of the population thinks Trump’s accession to presidency will bring positive changes in different directions. 35% of Almaty region residents and 40% of Almaty residents are sure it can positively affect the world policy. In Almaty they also gave the favorable forecast for America (34%).

31% of Mangistau region respondents declared that Kazakhstan will definitely benefit from the change of the U.S. Presidents. Although, as many people from Mangistau region consider it is too early to draw conclusions about Trump’s influence on Kazakhstan, and 38% are sure that the change of presidents in the USA will get no changes.

The other regions are more emphatic in their statements. So, people in South Kazakhstan region see pluses  for worldwide policy in Trump’s rise to power (40%), but, at the same time, do not hurry with the conclusions in other spheres (in relation to Kazakhstan this figure reaches 59%, and to America – 67%). In Atyrau region 14% of the population is positive to Trump. However, concerning the world and the USA no respondents gave the positive forecast. It was made by 26% of residents of North Kazakhstan region where a quarter considers Trump is better than his forerunners, although only 9% assume positive changes for Kazakhstan.
